Jazz Festival!

It seems I can barely keep up with summer this year but I refuse to let that keep me from enjoying it. We all have a million and one things going on but with the Jazz Festival in the Beaches, I had to take a time out and enjoy the music.

Last year was my first year checking out this particular Jazz Festival and I was SO excited to be back again. Queen St East gets shut down for the evenings and bands set up all along the street for the remainder of the night. You spend the evening wandering through the Beaches, feeding off of the assortment of food trucks available, and stopping multiple times on every city block to listen to a variety of different bands play music until the sun sets. I was SO excited when I found out that my favourite from last year was playing again this year and made sure that he was our first stop. Quincy Bullen makes soul food for music and I could have listened to him all night long. But alas, there was more music to be heard, and I needed to fill myself with as much of it as possible. Another favourite that I came across this year would have to be Oka Feel Good Music from Australia. Their trancy jungle vibes made me feel like dancing all night long like I probably would have done at Wayhome (sad face for missing out on that one btw). We called it a night right before the sun set and were sent off via drumline. It was difficult to walk away from that one, because good drumline just gets everyone’s toes tapping. Actually let’s be real, I find it difficult to pry myself away from  any form of live music.

Street festival vibes meant I had to dig through my closet to find me some festival appropriate rags. I call them my vacation pants and they were definitely a lucky find, fitting nice and long compared to most other garments that were otherwise average lengths! I bought them a few years ago (as an outfit with this top), from one of my favourite boutiques in the city, The Store On Queen (TSOQ). While they are no longer available, the boutique carries many different styles or brands, all of which are beautiful. Lengths for my tall sistas, however, are a hit or miss, as with just about any shop/brand that doesn’t specifically carry longer lengths.

TallGirls: Fashion That Fits

I’m always nervous to shop somewhere new. I get excited at the prospect of new options and having more options if all is successful, but I’m often hesitant and expect clothes to not fit. The sad reality of trying to dress my 6’2 frame.

I recently got some new goodies from TallGirls for the first time, and of course was excited but wary to get TOO excited when most items were only available down to a UK10. This would normally be equivalent to a US8 and I generally wear a US6. According to their measurements on their sizing chart though, it looked as if I might be in luck. Their website had many pretty items but the real test would be when the item arrived and I was able to try everything on.

This lovely slim leg play suit turned out to fit even better than I imagined. It’s so lightweight that even in the heat of summer, I don’t mind wearing pants. It also looks great with sandals, sneakers AND heels, so you really can’t go wrong with this piece.

I chose to pull the pants up on my shins so it didn’t hide any of the details of the sandals. The length, pulled down, is exactly perfect for my height with a 36″ inseam, but if you’re any taller, they my come up a touch short.

Overall, my first experience with TallGirls was absolutely lovely, so this isn’t the last of them you’ll see on my blog 🙂

The Wedding Date

On Saturday, I had the most wonderful date being my love’s +1 to his friend’s wedding. The day started with a boat cruise over to Toronto Island, where the ceremony and reception took place. It was a day full of fun, beautiful people and overflowing with love.

I found the most perfect dress from The Store on Queen to wear to this perfect summer wedding on the island. I didn’t “shop tall” for this dress this time around, so the length sits right above my ankle. Normally I’d rather the dress be shorter or longer, but on a hot summer day and plans to be on the island, this dress paired with a cute strappy sandal was exactly what I was looking for. It also made it easier dip my toes in water on the beach. Thank youuu summer weather for making fashion choices more flexible!

PS.. I may or may not have caught the bride’s bouquet that night. I’m not saying I had an advantage buuuuttt, I may have had a tiny advantage.

Zebra Stripes

I love a casual dress but I’m not much of a dress person, so I usually just admire them on other people. Being 6’2, it’s difficult to find dresses that work on my frame, so that effortless throw-on-a-dress-and-run-out-the-door look is not nearly as effortless for me. It’s always the same issues: short dresses are too short, mid length dresses are short dresses that are all the wrong shape and long dresses are mid length dresses that are obviously supposed to be longer. The best part of the dress shopping nightmare is that I didn’t realize how often I’d settle and make something work until I started shopping dresses that were actually made for my size. So it’s probably no surprise that today’s dress is from the tried and true, Long Tall Sally

This dress is so comfortable! The shape is so easy to dress up, but I decided to dress it down this time. I’ve paired the dress with my newest pair of sneakers and my super rad bracelet from Ashley Bridget. Even though I’m wearing it with Cons, I still felt so pretty in this dress, and of course, IT FITS. What a great feeling, when a mid length dress is actually mid length.
